User reviews

The bad reviews here are whats laughable. Its acrylic paper and a piece of chamois. If you have ANY problems with mold, or the 'sponge' breaking apart, or the cost of replacing either, I have your fixes. Parchment paper is wonderful - better than the acrylic paper supplied and its $3 for a roll of 30sq ft...anywhere. Chamois is also hardly expensive so your 'sponge' can also be replaced and you can find that anywhere. All you have to do is the cutting to fit for the container.Ive been using homemade wet pallets painting miniatures (an absolute must for painting them). Mostly made of container lids, paper towels, and parchment paper. I wanted something along the lines of simplicity - this gives me that freedom. Ill still have to cut parchment paper and chamois, when needed, but this is exactly what I've wanted - a lid. Perfection!
Save yourself some money and build your own for $2: Buy a tupperware and a roll of parchment from the Dollar store. Fold a paper towel in half and wet it. Cut the parchment to fit the tupperware and place it on top of the paper towel. My acrylic paint got gummy after about 3 hours sitting in this with the lid closed and a saturated sponge. I've had paint in my homemade palette for 3 days and it's still the same consistency as it was right out of the pot.
I've had a large Sta Wet palette for about a year and was getting frustrated with it and searching for options because the paper would lift off the sponge and my paints would dry out, no matter how carefully and according to to directions I prepared it first. If I added more water or closed the lid, the paint would soak up too much water and be runny and the binder seemed to be damaged because the quality of the paint suffered. A fellow artist recommended this size to me, and I've had paints stay just the right texture and workable for well over a week. I purchased this at the beginning of June and have just now had to replace the original paper, and that is painting several times a week and scraping it with a palette knife when I needed a clean spot to mix in. I was changing out the paper on the large palette just about every new painting. If you need more mixing surface, get more than one of this size. I never use the large one any more. This size is a lot more convenient to carry around, too. If you're an acrylic painter, you really need this palette!
