Good canvases. Much better at the earlier price. Not so good now. These canvases were $35 10/19, $37 12/19, and now $59 COVID/19. Price gouging much???
I really wanted to love these. I am new to oil painting and getting into the habit of painting everyday. I thought, great, these will fit the bill. The price was right, the reviews were good and delivery would really be two days with a prime account (must say the two days doesn't work 1/2 the time). Anyways, I was good to go... they arrived, packed well no issues. The canvas bundle is wrapped in plastic and each individual panel is wrapped. Again, I thought great, good to go. Then I started painting. Granted, I am still a novice artist. Half the time I paint, I say to myself I have no idea what I am doing. So this could be just me... and other artist out there may find these the best ever. However, I just haven't fallen in love with these panels. The biggest complaint is the bend. I have stained half and painted a few and they curve. It's awkward painting with them. At first, I had one just resting on a board easel, so I thought perhaps it needs to lay flat. No such luck. Okay so they bend and curve. I guess it's okay. Perhaps all canvas boards will do this, though the smaller ones I got (different brand) aren't doing that. My next issue is the coating. It feels like I am painting on sandpaper. I am used to getting canvas's from Michaels, the price for daily painting is driving me towards a cheaper option. I am sure it's just me, but can't say I like the feel of these beneath my brush. In time, I will get used to it. I won't be returning or not use them. Just don't think I will be buying these ones again.
I have bought these twice now. As far as canvas panels go, they are good quality. They all come individually wrapped, so you don't have to worry about any of them getting messed up if you're not using the whole set all at once, and I've never had any of them come bent or bowed like I have with other companies. My only issue would be that they say they are triple primed with acrylic gesso, but I still found them to be quite rough and had to prime them with another 3-4 coats. Other than that, I like the weight, loved the price and shipping time, and find them to be a quality product that I will continue to use as long as I need them.I did NOT receive a discount or any of these items for free--this is a completely unbiased and un-bought opinion.
