Although Artist & Author Paul Taggart uses watercolours for the mixes and diagrammatic demonstrations in some of these videos THE PRINCIPLES FOR COLOUR MIXING ARE COMMON TO ALL MEDIA – watercolours are used here simply on practical grounds in relation to showing the colours.

Welcome to ‘Learn to Enjoy Colour Mixing with Paul Taggart’ – A COLLECTION OF BUILD-UP SERIES that will grow into a comprehensive index of colour mixing tutorials intended to cover everything from the basic principles of the colour circle and colour mixing, through to series dedicated to practical colour mixing tutorials in each of the three principal wet media plus one dedicated to the dry media of pastels.

YOU WILL DEFINITELY FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO WORK ALONG WITH Artist & Author Paul Taggart as he helps you discover the delight in achieving ninety-five percent of the colours you will ever need from A CORE PALETTE OF SIX COLOURS – see https://vimeo.com/ondemand/colourmixingseries1

This box-set is about MAKING RED WORK FOR YOU in a simple, easy-to-follow set of tutorials; the purpose of which is to show you how YOU can learn to CONTROL COLOUR MIXES, rather than all of those tubes of colour being in control of you.

YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT the Nature of the principal primary reds. Then you move on to the secondary mixes where red is the principle primary. Thirdly you are shown how to manipulate your mixes to effectively introduce light and shade into your paintings.

Finally you are taken through two detailed step-by-step colour mixing practice studies of a subject where red is the principal primary.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTIONS FOR EACH VIDEO.

NOTE – colours will vary across the various devices on which this video is watched – so please do not despair if your colours are not exactly as those shown in these tutorials.

“Every artist develops their own palette of preferred colours, but to arrive at this selection requires knowledge of not only the available colours, but how colours work with each other to produce successful mixes.

Colour Mixing is every bit as important in making a composition work as thumbnails and perspective. With colour control you can communicate with your viewer, tell a story or evoke a mood – hence the phrase ‘to paint a picture’.

You would not be alone in thinking that colour mixing is a daunting prospect; every artist has been through this at some point – even professional artists such as myself. I guarantee however that it needn’t be so – for colour mixing is actually about some basic and simple principles”

As with all of Paul’s tutorials, these are filmed in real time and you not only get to watch every colour mix, but you are gently guided through the entire process with Paul’s running commentary explaining each and every aspect of the basic colour circle and nucleus palette of six colours.

See this series as a step-by-step guide that will take you on the first steps of your new journey into the wonderful world of colour mixing – one that will definitely enhance your painting experience as you come to understand the nature of colour, how to exploit it and how to manipulate your colour mixes to enrich and enliven your artworks.

PRACTICE THE BASICS LEARNT IN EACH TUTORIAL AND YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU ARE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT STAGE.
