‘Sketching Companions – Line & Wash Workshops with Paul Taggart’

So let me take you on a journey into the world of ‘sketching’ and working with washes of colour – otherwise known as Line & Wash.

Through this ‘taster’ box-set I aim to encourage you to experiment with different materials, approaches and techniques.
So do not think of these in terms of workshops specifically suitable for each of the four principal mediums.

Instead, use these four complete workshops as a way of extending your repertoire and expanding your approach to working with various mediums.
By experimenting in this way you will enjoy your sketching and painting experience all the more.

Follow each workshop and consider how the various materials used for the linework can be adapted and exploited.
Then consider how you can also render that linework – do you want to work loose and free? Or perhaps you would prefer a more precise approach?

What about the various methods used to create washes?
Can they be adapted across the various media?
Is there an opportunity for mixed-media?

Do you want to take those first steps into painting?
Nothing could be simpler than scribbling some linework and adding a few washes of colour – so why not try these out and get a taste for the different feel and results of the four principal painting mediums.

Do not restrict yourself – these are not ‘finished’ paintings, they are what they are – sketches to stimulate you and encourage your enquiring mind.

Best wishes for your painting, from Eileen and Paul
